I was thinking we should start an open-ended GUI contest. I say "open-ended" because we needn't put a closing date on it just yet, so we can see what kind of entries we get. I say "GUI contest" because I think it would be cool to make the contest explicitly about designing a GUI. We could give a particular application idea, and then see what kind of GUI people come up with.
For example, the contest could be 'Time Tracker', and it simply is supposed to track the time users spend on the clock. It would need two bits of functionality: (1) users can clock in and clock out, (2) users can view the time logged by all employees.
Then we can see what people come up with. For example, someone might make a little office building, and to 'clock in', you have to walk your little businessman into the building, and to 'clock out', you walk your little guy out of the building. Or it might be a standard GUI with a 'clock in' and 'clock out' button, but it's really slick and cool. And so on. Any clever idea for a GUI.
We could judge entries on certain criteria: visual impressiveness, how intuitive it is to use, originality, conformity to standard metaphors, etc. _________________
